SOUL MATE

SOUL MATE

A Poem by Ellen Hammond
"

This is a different write for me as I tend to write more along the inspirational line. But I did write this a while ago and thought it would be a nice one to publish here today. Happy Valentine's Day!

SOUL MATE

Image

Your presence lifts my spirit

I want to hold you near.

Look deeply into your eyes

And say 'I love you dear.'

But how can I express it?

Words can never explain

This overwhelming passion

Which brings both joy and pain.

Image

Looking in your loving eyes

Even hearing your voice

Sets my heart and blood racing

And makes my soul rejoice.

Your absence makes me lonesome.

My heart aches all day long.

I yearn to feel your closeness.

In your arms, I belong.

Image

The stars and moon shining softly

Reflect our silhouette

As we glide in unison

To our intimate duet

Why don't we stop pretending

That we are only friends

I've finally found my soul mate

And my love never ends.

Hello Ellen. I love the last stanza of this poem, particularly:
"Why don't we stop pretending

That we are only friends"

I honestly believe that the best love to have is the love of your best friend. To settle for someone who isn't now seems to me unthinkable. I've made the mistake of doing so too many times in my life.

I love the entire thing, and at the moment I can definitely identify with the theme. Your use of simple everyday words makes it better, in that anyone can enjoy the feelings you portray. The flow is wonderful, and the rhyme works.
Thank you for sharing this. :)

It's charming, and anything anyone dislikes about this poem would be concerning your style, and that's not something you should change - so no 'criticism' needed.

You romantic wee thing you !!!! Such warm, heartfelt words for the love of one's life. What a lucky chap !!
Beautifully expressed with deep emotional passion.....
Methinks it would be "fireworks" and the earth would certainly move, if these lovers met !!
Thanks for sharing this Valentine's piece.

No criticism needed! A fine write with glowing feelings. A well constructed poem in simple ballad form with a simple rhyming scheme that guides the reader along. The whole thing is enhanced by the addition of selected images which are quite beautiful. All in all a well rounded piece of work.
