A Known Place

A Known Place

A Poem by I Am Svetlana

Love--it becomes you.
It makes you ache.
It makes you feel weak.
I don't know
what mattered more--
the key to my heart
or until we meet again.
Leaves have been shed
by the trees, but
in their decaying,
I won't dare mislead you
on our search for Spring.
A place of knowing.

I appreciate spare wording, and this one handles that technique well. Both hopefulness and uncertainty come through here. It is as though the speaker is highly attracted to the addressee, but also has a fear of being hurt. It appears some time has passed in the relationship, and the question is still up for decision. The speaker comes across as wanting to be reassuring, but really wants resolution.
