The Stuff of Fairy Tales

This is dedicated to the one whose name is black as the clouds, who has inspired me and continues to do so through her work and kind words. Thank you.

When you gaze out the window

And see the world changing before your eyes

The landscape shifting from a dirty street and offices

To a world of mountains and lakes

 

From a land of sorrow and grit

To a planet of adventure and mystery

The cheap tiling beneath your foot turns to fertile land

And ash falling through the air is replaced by snowflakes

 

When you walk out of our world and come to another

Not ugly and corrupted

But full of magic and beauty

That is when you know

 

That is when you know

That you are daydreaming

And have slipped temporarily into a state of happiness

Only to be wakened by the harsh tug of reality, soon to follow

 

This is the truth, my friend

As sorry as I am to say it

But every time you look out the window

Don't be afraid to go for a visit
