23 Days Till Christmas . . .

23 Days Till Christmas . . .

A Chapter by Emily B

Dear Anna,

Twenty three days until Christmas and nobody seems to have noticed yet. I try to leave as many hints as I can.

Today we had a strange visitor to our home. I was supposed to be in my room writing a letter to our cousins in Danville, but I slipped downstairs when I heard the knock at the door.

It was a gentleman with a tall hat and he introduced himself as an agent of the government and began polite inquiries about Mrs. Cullen down the street. I know her as that rebel woman.

Mother invited him into the the sitting room and shut the door. I tiptoed up quiet as could be and put my ear to the door. I think mama heard me spying in the hall, I am liable to get a good talking to later.

Truly your own,

Anna
