Dear Stranger

Dear Stranger

A Poem by Duckey
"

A small act of kindness can go a long way

"
Dear Stranger
Your passing smile was well received
Under awnings as I had from rain
And falling ice shards
Which clatter to the side walk
Like broken glass on broken tiles

Dear Stranger
My lips turned into a smile
As you handed me a coffee
and stood with me
Staring out at the world
Your eyes alive with wonder

Dear Stranger
You shrugged off your warm looking coat
And draped it over my shoulders
It smelt of coffee and rain
Of summer and happiness
Of kindness and caring

Dear Stranger
Or the one who's name I now know
Somewhere in the back of my mind
You were kind to me
I didn't ask you to stay
But you did
To make a lonely soul a little less alone

Dear Friend,
Thank you
May fate bring us together again
Under a different awning
On a different day
Perhaps when we are different people
