Mad Hatter

Mad Hatter

A Poem by Theo Ratcliffe

You’re as mad as a hatter, a hatter I say.

I won’t try to hide it or even deny it, you’re as mad as a hatter can be.

“But why am I mad?” that hatter once said, for he was as mad as could be.

Maybe you’ve done something terribly bad, and that's why you’re mad you see.

“No, no that cannot be it, I will not throw a fit, that can’t be the reason i’m mad!”

Tell me lad, are you sad? is that the reason why you’re mad.

“Don’t make me laugh, being sad is not why i’m mad. You must be slow comrade.”

To tell you the truth, I had no reason as to why you might be mad, however,

I’ll tell you a thought I had, a thought about you being mad, as mad as a hatter I say.

And while you might be mad, i’m truly quite glad, because all the best people are.

“All the best people are? Well then I must be as mad as a hatter, a hatter you say”.
