depressed

depressed

A Poem by Ma'at

hidden under a blanket of
"oh i'm fine" "don't worry"
"I'm ok"
beneath the surface
under that smile
there is something breaking

ready to go out
wearing
a mask of happiness
a costume of contentment
makeup of pretend
lipstick of calm

there are only a few who have laser-eyes
only a little that can see the fake
the faux joy
the faux laughter
the faux happiness

out of all friends
that is how you find out
who the real ones are
and that
does not seem to help

and suddenly
you realize
who are friends
360 degrees around
and who
are only 180

ay yo sorry if this is late i havent checked in a while??

okay but i like this a lot okay this is super intense. like i love how you use phrases that everyone uses (like "i'm fine," "don't worry," "i'm okay") because that not only makes it super relatable but also makes the reader realize just how common depression really could be - everyone says it, so is everyone depressed? likely no but ya get what im saying.
at the end too i really like how you describe friends as 360 or 180 degrees - like that was a really clever comparison that i hadn't thought of before and i think it works really well - it makes the reader think about a kind of deeper meaning, in a way, and i really like that.
i also like the repetition of faux; that to me helps emphasize how fake it is - kind of like "fake with fake in another language combined together" level fake - does that make sense? no but i dont know how else to describe it.
yeah so this is fabulous okay thanks bye

I really like your take on 360 and 180 friends because it is so true. The friends that really care are the ones that can see through your mask in a second and be willing to help you. The friends that you can trick may not be as close as you think.
This makes me happy because I know my best friend can see through anything, this is truly an insightful write :)

Its amazing that many people see what is in front of them and thats it. Not many see beneath the facade beneath the trickery of what we portray. Depression is an illness which many people still do not understand. People's perception is often skewed and those perceptions from friends are the things that can and will sting the most. Keep your head up high. Walk the line and remember the sun will always rise tomorrow.

thank you, this really helped. x
The poem is true. Few can see the hidden face of sadness. Take a good friend to know. I know we will have few people who accept us in the good or bad days. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Aww. Thank you tho x
very creative closing chapter .. using degrees provokes me to thoughtful pondering .. lots of applications! in your About Me I see you state you are a teenager .. how difficult those years are for most .. so many struggles and rebellions that can shoot us off in tangents, cause us to make very stupid choices ... and more ;} Fortunately, (at least from what I have seen in my own life) most of us end up OK .. without too much damage ... but the risks are real .. and it is a great sadness to loose ones youth to drugs, (especially alcohol) risky behaviors that maim and kill .. slow premature death through tobacco and unprotected sexual activity ... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrrrG! good luck and great fortune to you Daniela ..

thank you very much, that definitely did help x
It's so hurtful.
Friends show their true colours in the bad times not the good times.
The ones who stick by you are all you need.
Better to have one or two close friends than a bunch who aren't real.
Good poem Daniela.

thank you very much x
the imagery in the second stanza blew me away...

and the ending turned me around...confessional, yet so metaphorical..it is relatable...
and as we move through life, we see and feel the friends who will stay...even through the bad times...

and that make-up we wear, it hides the truth...
