I Want To Be Strangers With You

I Want To Be Strangers With You

A Poem by Mehak Mushtaq

It's not like I knew you so much
that forgetting became the only option.
It's neither that I knew so little,
that neglecting was natural.
Flowers - beautiful or dull,
they ought to fall.
Dreams - real or fake,
they ought to wake up.
It's not hate, it's not anger.
It doesn't need to be.
Isn't being strange, a way of existing?
The reason is done, co existing.
I don't know enough of calculations,
You do the math of our compassion.
We tried being friends, we tried being lovers,
then just a little acquaintance.
Being strange is everlasting relation.
I not being enemies, I'm not a foe,
just being mathematical, we've been enough practical and emotional.
Leaving no trail of me, no clue,
I want to be strangers with you.

It's very musical how your words flow. There's a rhythm that dances even on dark paths of letting go; wanting somehow to erase the grief of knowing and unknowing. You're exceptional.

Jalal ud-Din Rumi: "Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it."

:) I'm glad you could connect it. Thank you.
The originality (from what I've read in my short life) alone is noteworthy. You skill compliments your unique perception. Always a thoughtful read.

First of all, love the artwork, your ID picture from Rene Magritte, one of my favourites.
And enjoy the poem too, the way it works with negative phrases then resolves this in the last lines, so well done.

You are welcome...:)
Very cool, I really like the thought that went into this poem. I just love the line, "I want to be strangers with you". It is the sort of phrase that can mean many things, good or bad, happy or sad and it is fitting for this wonderful work.
