"To The Exclusion of Others"

Couldn't help but notice
we were all in the same sinking boat
but it doesn't figure into my escape plan
to feel as though I'm all alone
in the midst of a mayday overblown.

Sink or swim
even if you life doesn't depend on it;
Know in contemplative meditation
with each breath given
the moments that can't be relived
should be the ones to make you insist
in your mind never again to fall victim
even if those around you who've forgotten are unwilling.
