Greeting of the Sexes

Greeting of the Sexes

A Poem by ettorney

Two women run into one another on the street
and when they greet each other they hug and kiss.
How they connect to feel right with a friend
is important to them, unlike with the men,
so when they speak with each other it looks something like this.

Sarah How are you?
How have you been?
I've been fine and you?
All is well with that man your dating, what's his name?
Winn?

Oh, no, I've moved on now I'm dating a dentist named Tim.
Say Julie, how's your son doing is he okay now?

Well, he's better thank you the doc said he's fine.

Oh, I'm so glad and you look good as well.
I love that dress and your nails, where do you find the time?

Oh really, Sarah, I'm fat as a cow.  Had my nails done at Monsieur Labelle.

Oh, I love that place but can't ever get in.

Just call Cindy, she's dating Fredrick, he'll find you a spot.

Oh yeah CIndy, I'll call her sure.  You know I can't stand her that two timing twin.

Haha, for real, I wouldn't either but for nails from Labelle it's worth it.  Is it not?

I suppose.  Maybe, we'll see.  Well, have to go now. Call me Julie!

Bye Sarah, see you Tuesday for our girl's night out!

You bet sweety, kiss kiss to your son. Love you!

Love you too hon.

Later that day on that very same corner
two men who are friends run into each other
they are each on their way to where they are going
so they greet each other without even slowing.

Sup.

Sup.

They've connected and said all that's needs to be said
So they pass each other with a nod of the head.

For men the way women greet most often perplexes
but forget it, you men just accept it for now
cause no matter what the time or the place or the why or the how
that's just the greeting of the sexes.

Sometimes it rhymes, sometimes it doesn't. I think I was caught between rhyme and story so I got a mishmash. Suggestions for improvement welcome.

This could not be more true! I smiled the whole way through. Men just have this unspoken understanding. I have a secret, though. Women have the same unspoken understanding...it is just that we like the way our voices fill the room. :)
