Taps

Taps

A Poem by ettorney
"

The end of conversation?

"
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Tappity tappity tap.

The thumb is now the way
For the youth to have their say.
A new way to speak
All the things that the meek
Cannot say to your face
Is this a loss of grace?

When young we always knew
The spoken word was true
Communication has gone by
No one looks you in the eye.

We see the words and discern their meaning
We Decipher the code, OMG are all caps SCREAMING?
My thumb is hurting badly
Yet my voice is quiet. Sadly.

Is this the end of conversation?
Ubiquitous communication?
This tech has opened a door
And changed what was before.

No more do I fear because no more will you see
The lies behind my words.
My face is hidden behind this text
No visual clues, no verbal context.

So we are left to guess
What will will happen with this mess
That tapping and texting has made of the art of conversation.

Tap. Tap. Tap.
Tappity tappity tap.

Send.

I tapped this out on my I-Phone. My thumb is numb. Edited about a day or so later. It's better now.

This is so true! No one seems to communicate these days unless it is via text or email, or IMS. People are slowly losing the art of communication, and an entire generation is growing up never knowing it!

ps, slight typo, last word, line four. I know you have typos. I read it somewhere.

Leaves you left to wonder how many relationships will crumble once brought into full effect in the presence of another human being. I've had relationships w/ people that have only developed behind a screen, and have felt unnerved at the idea of meeting them in real life. Wondering, will I captivate them the way I seem to behind a screen. This adds to the excitement of talkin to someone in person now-a-days, but it also means that we have lost touch w/ reality to technology. Awesome. I like the irony of you texting out the poem.

i like this particularly the end. it gives the poem a funny feeling because you seem to be texting while you say spoken communication is better.

I don't agree that this is crap. It has a nice little 'tappity tappity tap' rhythm. It also delivers a message we need to heed. Texting even seems to be the new way of dating here. lol Well, that could be a good thing the parents of teens might think. lol But seriously, being able to carry on a vocal conversation seems to be a dying art. What I find scary about it is the number of people you see driving while texting.
