The Strength of Her Own Spirit

Written to a friend who touched my life

One last letter to end this chapter

 One more chance to say my thanks

Words can't express what I feel

 but I have the need to try

 

So many lessons learned

 so many mountains climbed

All barriers broken down

 all from the seat across from your desk

 

 Tears were shed and laughter was shared

 Stories told young and old

Understanding and compassion

Like never before

 Your warmth reached out

and touched my heart

 

Never to I look back

At the person I once was

She is gone

Never to return

Only to remember where I was

and now who I have become

 

I felt the strength of my own spirit

thanks to you lovely friend

You believed when other's doubted

You encouraged when others turned away

You saw me for me

and helped me to learn who I am

 

Don't ever get discouraged

From what others may say

You are a diamond

Shiny and pure

And forever I will cherish

What you have done

Forever a life changed

All the mess has been undone

This is a very sweet poem. It reminds me of my best friend in middle school, when on the last day she gave me a letter telling me thank you for giving her the strength to stand up for herself and that she saw me as her long lost twin. A pleasant memory, that your poem helped me recollect.
