without a note

without a note

A Poem by Red Brick Keshner
"

obviously a work in progress... over the years I've had several persons close to me end their own lives. At 15 I had also made several attempts to end my own. It's not an easy topic to broach...

"

`

the one that leaves is gone,
those left behind relive the exit wound
several thousand times over

each replay fresh as the day
and the pain, though dulled by time
will remain, a constant hound

relentless in its unforgiveness
persistent in its punishment:
please, watch out for those you love

be mindful of imperceptible signs
the withdrawal and the locked door
silent eyes that glare in anguished despair

all too soon it is for us all, too late
without a note to free our hearts
it tears open a promethean* bruise

and all too quickly our lives are changed
left only with remorse and questions
whose scars will forever with us remain.

*Prometheus was immortally bound to a rock, where each day an eagle, the emblem of Zeus, was sent to feed on his liver, only to have it grow back to be eaten again the next day. ~http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prometheus

Author's Note

Red Brick Keshner
This is obviously a work in progress... over the years I've had several persons close to me end their own lives. At 15 I had also made several attempts to end my own. It's not an easy topic to broach, to write about or discuss. And so I decide to now face my music and begin to write about this.

You are right dear Frederick.

The above lines. We will learn often and I did like the tale of Prometheus and Zeus. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.
