Ice, UntouchedA Poem by GrandeuricAn icy poem
I'd very much rather
Leave the ice untouched. If it were broken, I would be crushed Under the pressure of all the things I'd have to do, Just to simply get on the warmer side of you. I'd rather endure the cold shoulder Than try to heat it And get the flu. We both tread Very thin ice Below us, the freezing water That threatens our life. So let's stay a fair distance apart: If we get close The ice will shatter into a million shards, And the same will happen to our hearts. Once, I saw you shivering, Among the pure white scenery That gleams with a glittering. There was a barren oak next to you, It's leaves replaced by snow. I thought, That I should perhaps offer my coat To warm you, and I could endure the cold. But In doing that I would be cracking the icy mold, So I left you to mope... Unbeknownst to me, You were getting quite bitter, Like the coldness I have been emitting In fear of you. It's like a melting icecube, And when it's gone We'll both be overcome with a chilly gloom. You caught me as I turned to leave And I felt like I would coldly scream. But there was this warmth coming from you, And it seemed like our hearts beat in tune. Though very rare, In this winter, The flower of our love Began to bloom. You were the icebreaker To my wall of ice; And I discovered You were quite nice! I couldn't be cold, When you had so warmed me. So I'll reciprocate, And keep you warm Through the blizzard of life. © 2016 Grandeuric |
