A Lonely Man

A Lonely Man

A Poem by Ezekiel Silver
"

Year poem was written: 2013

"

I once met a man as I sat upon a bench,

his spirit seemed scarred yet his heart pure.

When I sat down he greeted me kindly,

"Hello young man." is all that he said.

I greeted him back and continued with a question,

"Why do you appear so sad and broken?"

The man smiled in thought before wisely replying,

"Because I lack brotherhood with my fellow man."

"If you lack your brotherhood why do you smile?"

        Was my response.

He only said this before leaving,

"I smile for I still cling to hope."
