Gone Fishing

Just enough a hook
to fit the size of hunger.
Pain the daily catch.

I called you today
from remote connecting link.
You dropped off the line.

Changing channels I
heard consuming monologue
responding ........... white noise.

if you tried to fish the Great Lakes this year you know the frustration. The water level was too high for the inland lakes, streams and rivers. The fish that would otherwise spawn, refused. It rained far too much during the summer months and it was cold far too long into the spring. "Fishing" is a masculine (though noble) pseudonym for being in love. You turned the poems beginning into the "Odyssey" where perplexed-bewilderedness became the Lothphagi of indolence. But it was a love poem after all. And No amount of lotus eating can make forlorn lovers listen.....dana

You paint a helluva picture with so few words. Our writing style is similar so of course I loved it.

Your welcome
This poem is quite the "catch"! You seem to talk about fishing as a symbol for a not so good relationship, one that gives pain, when you reel it in, one that doesn't want to communicate and instead wills itself back into the ocean. The wording is so interesting, using words that could fit into a fishing scene and a bad relationship scene, I enjoyed this alot!

Boy, what a catch written here, or the lack thereof. And as far as,
"Changing channels I
heard consuming monologue
responding ........... white noise." --- Is my norm, LOL.
This was a fun read and one I had to go slow with to digest more than one meaning. :)

Has the sound of an attempt at communication that didn't prove fruitful. The speaker seems to have desired to connect again, but the other wasn't having any part of it. Well, there are always other fish in the sea.

I realise this is both about fishin, without the G and not. It is also so much about what you catch when you go fishin and what gets away and turns into a story about itself. Wonderful.
