Gone Fishing

Just enough a hook
to fit the size of hunger.
Pain the daily catch.

I called you today
from remote connecting link.
You dropped off the line.

Changing channels I
heard consuming monologue
responding ........... white noise.

Oh boy... I know this poem. I know the feelings. I lost a very good friend three years ago. He was disabled with a bunch of medical issues. Perhaps, to the rest of the world an "odd friendship." I don't get this "times heals" stuff. The pain is always with me. But so are the memories...so bittersweet. We enjoyed so many things, and places and concerts...just so much. So many things remind me of happy memories...the holidays are hard. But you know what I miss the most? The unconditional friendship. No strings, no games, just complete acceptance. Good day, bad day, didn't matter. Friends no matter what. That is a rare find. I miss that. Oh that "white noise" is there...Yet, so are his last words to me. I know this poem of yours well. This life cheated my friend, yet a week after his death, I had a dream. My friend restored to health, happy and at peace. It has become the new image in my mind. The only scars in Heaven, are on the one that holds him now.

Love the way your wandering thread is strung thru these 3 different but resonating ideas. As usual, your Einstein Noodle is hard at work *wink! wink!*

As always your writing is gripping. This poem can be interpreted about different things yet the feeling is the same. Not a person on earth hasn’t felt this. Today is my mother’s birthday. She passed years ago.. You are spot on in this poem hook line and white noise. And when we are in the white noise like I am today.. its hard. But today I did feel my moms presence ever strong..it made the emptiness more bearable. A blessing really. Always wonderful to read your work..

Than you.. It was my pleasure.
That is so sad..the only response to your call being white noise..something eerie about it..but maybe I'm reading too much into it..? I love the way your poetry makes me think outside my own Box and takes me out of my comfort zone ( in a challenging, healthy way).thank you E for that 😊

A chain of senryu that do feel connected by the idea of loss and pain. The empty space left by someone’s absence. And how it takes so long to come to terms with the silence that will inevitably be encountered on the other end when we reach out again and again. Something we aren’t taught and I don’t think we can be taught is the hole that is endless, as though a page has been ripped from the book of our life, when someone important is no longer there. The idea that we recover from loss is somewhat misleading. It seems we more learn to live with that hole in the landscape where the person used to be. We learn to step around the hole. Your poem(s) spoke to me of that sense of being alone/lost in aloneness after loss. Maybe my own state of mind, but the pain and solitude are keenly felt for me within the lines. Always a pleasure to read your work, E.

What a nice image you painted in mind. And yes, it's easy to be lured by the things of the world.
But love reaches beyond all.

This is wild, it reminds me of the time I was speaking with my sister on the phone, I was very tired from work at the time and she was telling me my nephew was outside and she wasn;t able to find him and that she was very worried, just then "my Nephew" came on the adjoining line and said hello Robin, which I though was strange that he didn't add the "Auntie" on it, as I said, "Hunter!" "Your momma has been looking for you and is worried sick", My sister then asked who I was talking to? I told her Hunter was just on the phone...she said he was not, and that she was alone and worried about him so she went to check the adjoining phone as she didn't hear it. Hunter was not on the phone. That is when I first realized that I hear "stuff" when I'm half asleep and when I began posting these things that "I hear"

Okay, this may be an overshare but I have PTSD and when I read this, I thought this expressed what it is like to live with it perfectly. Pain is the catch of the day, when you least expect it and think you are going to get something totally different. When you try to connect, to explain to people what its like, they tune you out. You are left with this vague noise in your head like a radio that never finds a station. That may not be what you intended when you wrote this poem. Readers always bring their own meaning. But this spoke to me, and I thank you for that!
