Happy All Hallowed Eve everyone!! :) my little contribution.

Ghosts   

sitting in the basement

by herself .........

...........she talks out loud............

 

startled by the sound of the human voice

cutting the darkness

she listens

she is watching CNN to 

make opinions

her words, her thoughts

come back as stones hanging on dust

(like virus)

floating and catching her breath

                      she wasn't thinking

                                        she talked out loud

                                                 

                                                         no one is there.

but ghosts.

I do think they hear us, they listen....
observe...they are there.
I experienced one once...face to face for about 30 seconds....I was too surprised to speak, and she didn't either....but the look in her eye was of someone troubled... I regret that I did not speak.

My immediate thought - right or wrong, is that we are in fact more ghost than living being because.. .. we have near given up our ability to use instinct. We can be wrong, behave in ways unseemly and lost but. educated analysis can bewilder whereas an immediate laugh or shudder comes from somewhere inexplicable. perhaps. Ghosts are not necessarily spooks as often suggested but the feel of how the spirit ripples towards comfort rather than dread.. which i th-i-i-nk is what you are inferring. Or not!

You inevitably set me thinking.. which is how it should be when one floats through time! Many thanks, will return again because there are thoughts hidden behind your words, perhaps. Stay well, sir.. keep safe. Please. '

Oh, it's just me, nothing you did. I write in rhyme so much that I have a hard time reading poems without my brain going in that direction. It is kind of like having a senior moment and at 76 I try to avoid those. Sometimes I have to read poems 2 --- 3 times before the flow hits me. So, you see, I didn't Plow through, I just had to get used to the water first.

ah! thank you! yes .. we all have our voices .. many and varied .. mine is free verse and abstract tho i challenge myself to use classic forms every now and again to gain inspiration as well as a launching point for my "voice" .. there is much to be said for rhyme .. it is not easy to do in a way that keeps from being trite, cliche'd, forced or stretches syntax ... it has to be worked and reworked whenever I use it .. takes me forever to post new stuff as it is .. even longer if it is a classic form of some kind. Thanks for taking time!

Many times it's been said --> all we consider so passionately (often mere opinion) is nothing but illusion. Your poem depicts some of these dearly-held illusions of modern times. I have not missed TV news fomenting since unhooking my satellite dish 2 years ago *wink! wink!* If we're not careful, ghosts will be cultivating our thoughts & realities (((HUGS)))

ooooooooo love where you went with this Margie!! good on you living sparingly without the b**b tube .. I have not quite arrived there yet .. i like watching movies while i take me beer break .. the news can be unhealthy to watch longer than a few minutes .. its all i need to "keep up" .. i agree with you ... these days even "anchor" people slant it all with opinions .. i spend more time .. about 5-10 minutes watching live coverage on CSPAN .. we get it straight from the horses mouth that way .. love your warning my friend .. if ghosts cultivate our thoughts .. we "have forgotten the face of our fathers." (quote from "The Gunslinger" by Stevie King. ;)

I like your use of CNN and Ghosts, is there any similarity? when, as a middle child I had to entertain myself, so I talked to no one, because my sibs got all the attention.....there are ghosts everywhere, but we cannot find them....perhaps they are just shadows of us. Enjoyed....

yes .. i think you are right Betty .. we all most certainly have ghosts .. some haunt .. some give us a semblance of companionship and acceptance ... as far as CNN goes .. perhaps there is a similarity .. i watch about 10 minutes of news .. mostly CSPAN and there live coverage of hearings, committees and House and Senate workings .. CNN seems to have gone a long way downhill since their coverage of Sadam Hussein's fiasco War .. they were the only ones to provide real time footage .. I don't think many people pay much attention to them .. i think they have forgotten what anchor news coverage is and opt for total commentary until only recently beginning to offer opposing view points with their guests .. they are like ghosts for me .. faded .. unable to connect but wanting to ;))) .................. love and peace and stay safe out there my friend!

I totally agree with you on the subject of CNN; I can only watch a few minutes at a time……and most of it is not connecting to its audience…..and very repetitive….you take care too😊

I love your way of conveying messages using holidays, supernatural events and the fake news sir, Very creative to make them all come across our pea brains. I take it as much as those fake news channels air their lies, the more people depart and forsake them becoming the ghost audience. Kill the truth, you get the blues and the shoes.
I like also the cascading formatting of your poems...
