‘The Truth In ‘No’ Shows’

Why are you so afraid
To hear the answer
‘No’?

Why do you let the lies
Grow and grow
Just to let your self-worth
Grow
Deeper in pride
You hide inside

Showing and knowing
It’s not truth that is glowing
But the sadness that shines
While
Going out of your mind
You search
But
Don’t find

The only truth and love
There you shall find
Without living a lie
Inside each day
That you die a bit more
The empty core
You return
Like before

Too afraid to find the real
Reason why
Why do you try
Live a lie
You shall die-

Searching for why

Just let go
Look inside

Drop the pride that you hide

Clear the heart
Go back to the start
Rewind the mind

Take back time

It’s worth more than a dime

Ride the merry go rhyme

Invest in self and in time

Lend a shoulder
Climb that boulder
Cross the rivers
Allow the shivers
Of your soul to set the goal

Be at one with yourself

Swop the book for yourself

It’s in the ‘no’
That you grow
Inner respect you will show

Who cares
Who knows

Beauty inside will show

Not people

True beauty

Know

I shudder at the cover
Of souls that grow old
Under the mould
Of fake stories
They’ve told

To be accepted
Not rejected

It’s pathetic

What we steal from ourselves
Believing lies and self doubt

Take a chance
Dance that dance
See what’s true
Be the you

When the circle
Turns complete
And you’re back on your feet
The only defeat
Is the face that you see
Staring back at yourself
Due to
Self worth and self doubt

Asking, ‘What was it all about’

Now answer yourself
Was it worth it

Don’t shout
Don’t tear your heart out

You did it yourself

Again I ask you invane
Why are you so afraid
Of the mistakes and bad judgements
You’ve made

This is how the way is made

Why are you so afraid
Of the ‘no’?

That only the way of truth
Does show.....

Reminded me of the old( I believe Dutch) proverb - " We get too soon old and too late smart"! When faced with straight forward issues, instead of pretending (lying) how to react, we should just truthfully say 'no'! Really liked the tumbling down stanza style format - emphasises the subject theme and gives energy to the wordplay - :-)

Yes they give character and ensure growth but as long as we learn and grow...🌹

many people lie YES because they are afraid of something or protecting themselves from something, afraid to lose respect, worth, the perfect self-image...etc... or even afraid of losing someone, to take the courage and say "NO" for stop being stuck in the same cycle is a rebirth, and I hear that No in many different situations, "no" to something we do to ourselves, we lie to ourselves when we know what's true, "no" to something others doing it to us, maybe even emotionally abusing us, when that "no" is said and occurred, a new person is born taking it step by step.

As you must know, I love a strong rhyming riff & here yours puts the emphasis on the message more than the rhyme, which is just a snappy accompaniment. Sometimes a riff will have more mystical passages than meaningful ones. But this is deep & heartfelt & honest, the kind of message that rarely emerges when a poet is too focused on a steady rhyme. I love your message & I’ve felt the same ways much of my life. I spent too much time people-pleasing & not even finding out what my own preferences might be. Now I’ve ditched those who didn’t appreciate my subservient molding to them one bit & I’ve discovered a “me” I didn’t even know was in there! I hope your poem can inspire others to find their truth instead of glomming onto someone else’s shallow example. About 4 stanzas from the end, I think you might mean “in vain” rather than “invane”!??! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Yes thinking one is better or higher than another is just as bad as being a people pleaser- sad if you can’t be true to yourselves and others just to be accepted- I cannot understand people living a lie-what an effort it must be daily to keep up with the ones you so wish to be like- I guess we all have different times of learning- I just cannot be anything but true all round- some people may not like it but once they’ve learnt the lessons to learn hopefully they will reflect- Thankyou for taking time🌹

I come from a long line of women who did the typical subservient thing back in the 50’s & before that. I am always delighted to see strong independent self-assured young women, even if they can be a bit abrasive (people never give it a thought, coming from a man, so why not women?) It saddens me, however, to see how many young women are still submerging their true selves in order to be liked!

We all make mistakes, no one is exempt and it is best to learn from them. What's done is done and no amount of wishing things were different is going to change what has already passed under the bridge. We have to face up, accept responsibility and then move forward. You also have to be kind to yourself. It's no good beating yourself up about things which you can't alter.
