Devastating world

Devastating world

A Poem by R.A. Youngblood

I went out for a walk,
This is the world we invaded.
Heard an old man talk:
"Is this the world we created?"

People colliding,
Searching for what they need.
Their mind is guiding,
At the corner child's smoking weed.

We can't let go of this world we've started,
The helpless African child is born.
Girl on the bench broken-hearted,
A rich man sitting on his throne.

Good people not reinvigorated,
They're just too frustrated.
Everything is so complicated,
Government for money infatuated.
The bee's flying but the flower isn't pollinated,
Is this the world we created?
Yeah, this is the world we devastated!

I feel i should respond to this poem with an effort at being positive and inspiring hope, but sometimes all i can say is...yeah i know what you mean. Especially about the caretakers being too careworn. Still i did like the realism of it all, the way it took my mind to different scenes, different places and walks of life. Puts my own troubles into perspective thats for sure. Nice write. Thanks.

'Is this the world we created?' I find myself asking that same question to myself a lot. There are pretty shocking and sad things going on all around us, even in a country like the US which is supposedly wealthy I have seen homeless veterans, poor people giving to charity while wealthy ones take their dogs with them to the mall in a Gucci bag, and lots of other things that annoy me =_= I like how your poem inveighs against all that; it's full of hard feelings for a hard world.

One of my favorite poems so far that I´ve read.. It was so good! Beautiful use of words and rhyme.. loved this part especally:" I went out for a walk,
This is the world we invaded.
Heard an old man talk:
"Is this the world we created?""

and also "We can't let go of this world we've started,
The helpless African child is born.
Girl on the bench broken-hearted,
A rich man sitting on his throne."

you have real talent!! Amazing job!

Thank you very much :D
What a heart touching poem.
Hope is what drives most of us, without it i believe the rich will be the only people living in this world.

Love that last stanza, especially the line about the bee. Strong imagery in this, it's very intense. And full of truth. Great write!

Frustration can be a palpable thing sometimes... and always living on hope gets old quickly when you don't really FEEL the hope.

I guess so.
Your poem says what we all ask.. it is not pretty..and you did a fantastic job of writing about it !
your author's note....I am a Christian so that is where my strength comes from...but I will tell you.... when I get down about all this world going bad... I look to nature...birds, insects...
all that is going on in the world and still...little rolly polly bugs curl up into balls, crickets chirp at night, flys still irritate us..and those bees..well they aren't pollinating because they are taking that sweet pollen back to make honey.. there is your hope..

:) You're welcome.
Having a greater awareness of our world allows us to see all its faults in painstaking detail I guess and your poem points that out very clearly. This world is not ours to destroy and we do need to reign it in, big time

I really like this, I've been thinking of things like this much lately. This world wasn't ours to destroy, but we did. Now look at us.

At times I wonder the exact same question as your Author's Note asks. It's a shame that hope is only visible in small windows today. The difference that small word with a world of meaning could do if thought of more often...I better not continue with that line of thought though...makes me mad. You brought to life the fact that we need more of it...thank you for the RR. :)
