Beggars

Beggars

A Poem by SOUL LESS
"

I write em like i see em

"

Begging in the scorching heat,

Their hands extended,

Their faces beseeching,

Asking for something to eat.

A young boy sleeping on the ground,

Awakens and dons his sodden rags,

Ignoring the rumblings in his stomach,

Towards the road, his feet he drags.

His rags are covered in filth,

His eyes swimming with tears,

He walks towards the road,

Ignoring the children’s taunting leers.

He approaches a car on his protesting feet,

As if in a trance,

The light turns green, the car drives off,

Without a backward glance.

He stands where he is,

Not caring abut his health,

Wondering about,

The secrets of wealth.

Calling it a day,

On the pavement he lies,

Hoping that,

He dies, dies, dies.

Here’s a suggestion for you…but its only a suggestion. Firstly you made me cry, and well I must say you should be proud of this work. it reminds me of the things I saw as I child, the things I want so badly to do.

He grounds his position
Unaware of his ill soul
Pondering about,
The treasures of the world.

This is very good. Sad but true. A Lot people including myself at times take for granted how blessed we are to have shelter and food... Nice work!

"A young boy, sleeping on the ground
Awoken by the sound
Of his rumbling, protesting stomach
Inches toward the tarmac."

your second stanza is good, you don't need my amateurish revision! :)
imagery, message and metaphor are great.keep it up!

Too sad, too true. I like the second last stanza as you have it.
Your poem breaks my heart, knowing people, children wake to hunger pangs and go to sleep with them breaks my heart.
This eloquently but with starkness reminds us of the state of the world we live in.
It is a VERY good poem.

You remind us all of the daily plight of millions... those with nothing who somehow survive... Gave me pause to think, to be thankful, and to pray that I give back more than I take.

About
I am a boy. I love English Literature. I love to write. Some people hate me for it, but for me writing is like an escape from the real world. Its like reading a book except that I control what happens.. more..
