Indeed we all are responsible for the poisoning of mother earth! I read this as an ecological warrior repenting for sins of the past as he, like all of us, simply got on with life without considering the impact upon the planet. Nicely said in this piece whose opening lines brought on memories of Rod Stewart.

This feels like a funeral dirge . . . well-written, hard-hitting, & it feels like it's dripping gray sludge along your lines. Love the vivid imagery for all the senses to feel more than presenting thoughts about this situation. *sigh!* Fondly, Margie

Hmm seems to me I remember talking with someone about this recently...,.:/
The leaders debate if the crisis is even real and turn a blind eye. Meanwhile… the world burns. Well penned.

And, we creatives have gifts that speak boldly and profoundly in ways that cut through the noise to be heard when the debaters drown each other out. I read this the other day when you first posted it (I think) and have been thinking about it since. You’ve done the subject justice. I’m too cerebral with my poetry, so I struggle with where to start writing about these kinds of things.
My daughter had a dream that climate change had taken hold and much of the human race had become zombie like. She’s never seen a zombie movie, so I’m not sure where the idea originated, but she was terrified when she woke up. That morning, before I knew about her dream, we read a speech by Greta Thunberg and she (quietly) began to feel a sense of terror. She told me later about her dream and how she worried it was some kind of vision of the future.
I can’t imagine what kids today are feeling. I remember reading a story in the newspaper when I was still in high school (91 I think) about a loss in plankton numbers due to slight warming of the oceans. I still have that article somewhere, as I saved it. It scared me then, but it seemed less desperate. There was still time on our side.
But, as your poem offers, we are short-sighted. We use the earth as though it’s one of our disposable goods and (because we aren’t made to see it) imagine our waste to disappear when we chuck it.
I’ve been just as guilty as anyone of not understanding the full impact of humanity on the environment that sustains us.
Your poem is a strong reminder for us. Thank you for sharing it here.

There's a line in one of my earlier poems that reads: "I want to beg earth for forgiveness and / I'm embarrassed for not knowing how". I love the truthfulness in your poem, the message calling out to pay attention.
Sadly it has taken too long for the penny to drop and to realise the dreadful damage that we have inflicted on our beautiful planet. Now the penny has dropped, there are still countries procrastinating and others who don't give a damn. We all need to work on this. Your image reminded me that this week the last of the cooling towers at a power station a few miles away were blown up. Glad to see the back of them. Thought provoking words Bunny.

Thanks Chris i like the analogy of a non reciprocal relationship to that of our sapping our planet
i think Mother Earth has always forgiven us...and she keeps bouncing back from our abuse...but sooner or later, her temper will flare...or she will just give up fighting.
if only we could be just a little bit more courteous to our earthen elder.

Good one, Rob. We are responsible for what we are doing...or not doing to the environment. Look back...
two massive world wars in the space of 50 years, not to mention others since. Horrendous amounts of gun smoke, burning oil, landscapes denuded of trees.
We think we can change the environment...we can't. It will be what it will be and it has always been like that...remember the dinosaurs. The world believes they were a failed experiment...they were around for several hundreds of millions of years...how long has Man been around?
Sorry for the diatribe...just saying.
