Whole Milk

Whole Milk

A Poem by Robert Trakofler
"

I had a dream

"

Whole Milk

It wasn’t a dream, it was just a dream

Was it a sigh or a yearns scream

A tear in my eye from a cherished gleam

Or the sneer of denies demean

Suckling the breast of communities chest

Seems it is me that gets digest

My nutrient free sustenance of jest

To keep me hungry and oppressed

This wasn’t a dream it was just a dream

I swallow my complicity

And hollow my felicity

I follow the atrocity

To wallow the indignity

The tears in my eyes from a perished dream

This compromise of cherished beam

To skin comprised of fairest cream

To skim demise diversity

To supply your rapacity

This wasn’t just a dream

what I pick up from this is Jeffery Dahmer - esc, maybe its the pic or the video, there's definitely a psych think going here, pushing that poetic edge. the mind is a fascinating thing. course I wouldn't wanna get to close to the one portrayed in this write here. I get a vibe of "Feeding off society", or being devoured by society. I think quite literally. This sounds like he/she succumbed to the impulses for the first time and is not sure what really happened. You never know what is lurking behind those seemingly docile eyes!

Very timely!!
You strike a chord here that needs to be heard.
This sounds like it's well suited for slam.

Oh. Kinda eerie. :)

I found the whole poem fascinating Rob.. as far as dream interpretations go.. Your title 'whole milk' and the subsequent references to 'suckling the breast' etc might indicate that you are concerned for the welfare, livelihood and possibly growth & protection even of some other person or group.. the additional ' to skin compared to fairest cream' makes me wonder whether you are demonstrating more than the known empathy you have for the underprivileged/under dog .. then of course there is the great MLK and his I have a dream speech ... well what more can this old fella say... well loads actually but maybe in a PM ... we shall have to wait n see ...

As always I luv the sound of your voice & your amazing video clip sir .. Take care out there

I know exactly what you mean:(
Once again I cannot but help notice the rythm here before anything else. That I start on the layers of meaning and of course the title takes me into the obvious and prevelant mood but then, as with all your work I step into so many other area. Breakdowns, the errant workings of the mind. As one of your previous reviewers, (and I don't normally read before I review, if you see what I mean) the impact of the individual on a maybe arrant society and conversely its impact on them. Remarkable.

What a great tribute to MLK this is, Robert. He had a dream and at the time it was the nation's dream. He would not be pleased with the way things are going today. He never wanted destructive protests. He was a peaceful man. Abraham, Martin, and John......so sad they are not the role models today. LydI**

I don't know if I have actually understood the core of the poetry but I will still blabber because I love the flow, rhythm and description of it with a spice of sarcasm.
The 2nd stanza gives me a clear picture of how we are being nursed with exploitation only to act like a puppet for the autocrat.
I can sense the anarchy where the one who has power is taking all the advantages of it.
Sorry for any misinterpretation. But I really loved it.

I wasn't sure what this poem referred to Bunny, so I looked closely at the image and saw a man drinking milk through a straw. Then my mind went awol because I have recently had to give up cows milk because it makes me ill. I am missing something I used to love. I am being denied a staple, so maybe this poem has more to do with some people having the cream of life while others have nothing.

Me too. Like Bukowski told us. Bad reviews sell books.
You've TOTALLY OUTDONE YOURSELF as far as this clip! When I read this poem, I got a strong wave of "political statement" but then I felt maybe I was just reading that into it, maybe it wasn't really there & that I'm reading "political" into everything lately. But when I watched the clip, there's no doubt in my mind that this is raging badass buttkicking political! Yeah! I thought so! Skimming off the cream & leaving the masses with leftover curdled milk-water. The way the reading & the listening experiences bounced off one another for me, it felt exactly like what your poem is saying . . . it's like we can hardly believe our senses, the blatant plunder goes on unabated & seemingly unchallenged. Is this an outrage & am I part of the outrage for not knowing how it can be stopped? This is too fucked up to comprehend becuz I hate what you're saying but it's so much of what I think & see (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Our dreams fascinate, perplex and often disturb us. It is funny how now i am reading Freud and his psychoanalytical theories and at the same time I came across your dream that wasn't a dream but just a dream. And now I cannot stop myself but correlate the two.
For Freud, the unresolved conflicts that give rise to any neurosis constitute the stuff of literature.
And for me, both the dream and the poem were intensely amazing.
