Wintry Whispers

 

I watched my footprints withdraw in the snow

As Flurry displaces my passage

And how I arrived I’ll soon not know

 

This wintry flourish to my vantage

Drafts the trees in a glistening tableau

From the prosaic to enchanted

 

Lifting my trudge in the seasons bestow

In a new vision of hope decanted

To carry my plod in promises throws

Loved the accompanying picture. Wonder if they meant "no pandering." The first verse is a splendid image of how our days here are obliterated by the passage of time, to the point where our own memories can't summon up images of the past. This depressing thought is quickly alleviated in verse 2, where the speaker is enchanted by the winter scenery. I take this to be a comment on the value of living in the present moment, which is the only thing that is real. The rest of the poem shows how the spirit can be lifted by just such moments. A concise example of a valuable practice.

the road to enchantment is so difficult...
we forget how we get there, the footprints in our minds covered up.
but all that counts is that we are there, have a new vision...and move forward
even if the going is a bit slower...as we wallow ahead.

I am so bad at brevity Jacob it is a real exercise for my fractured brain but you just knocked my thoughts right out of the park my friend (and it only took you 4 lines:) LOL
