Dry Cycle

Dry Cycle

A Poem by Robert Trakofler
"

You just don't know what you can discover at the laundromat! spoken word video and audio links below:)

"

There are very few things

As boring as watching clothes dry

I have observed the spins…

Have the effect of slowing time

Now you might think this truth

Could be, the key… to longevity

This tumble dry of youth

For I am, one hundred… and three

But I ask you, my friend

Is a life, staring at laundry

Truly a life well spent?

It’s not all that’s cracked up to be!

It’s true I have stayed young

But the thing… I didn’t foresee

My minds a bit unstrung;

Always being awash detainee

For this I must explain

Like in Thomas Young’s double slit

Experiments, attain

This dry viewing I must commit

For my youth… to remain

Our life reflected in the dryer as parts of it spin by, reminders, but also possibilities of the self
we could wear in the future...
Very clever piece and so well read....you have a terrific voice and style for reading your poetry.
I'm still stuck in the wash cycle, thank you.

I like how watching the slow tumble has stilled your mind, for some things just can't be hurried; and your thoughts wandering to longevity ... well i can see why now you are " 103" lol.
Life should be lived for the day when we are young, but sadly we become older and wiser which brings heavy washloads to bear. Loved the soundcloud version, couldn't log in to tick the like box... but did like :)

Now that bars are shut, laundrettes could be a hub of pickuptivity.
Just imagine the scenario when you meet the blond.
If we combined our dirty laundry we could have a dirty child.
I've got a dirty child says the blond, it's yours.
Really need to change that soap powder.

Laundromats are weird places to hang out. It's been decades since I've had to use one, thankfully. Here in Cali, it seems laundromats are the domain of Hispanics (Catholic, so they have many kids, plus often field workers, so they have a plethora of dirty clothes, & finally, not well-compensated so they don't buy large appliances). Being overrun with completely un-managed kids (Hispanics seem to be more "free" when it comes to kid-management), the laundromat experience here is never boring, as yours seems to be. But it was interesting to be immersed in different suds for a bit (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

It all depends on whose clothes you watch dry. Yours ... boring, that lovely lady next to you not so boring ... although it could lead to problems.

Good one Rob.
Take care friend.

Super great, I think your writing is awesome, and totally readable. The opposite of boring, totally readable.

Hi Rachel LOL you did read one of my poems thanks for visiting me:) I am tickled you liked my poem
Funnily, I've never listened to a poetry reading
This first time for me sounded better than the read
I try reading to my wife but I get my tongue so tangled that it becomes a failure
About the poem itself, I say whatever you have to do to stay young, no matter how boring, is probably worth it
Wonder where the closest laundromat is

Haha no pondering in front of the dry cycle. The rhythm would have me day dreaming but you would meet all sorts in a laundrette of all walks of life especially those who don’t have a washing machine! A clever write as always Robert, you crafty devil as always.

What an original poem Bunny. I have to say it is many years since I sat and watched my clothes perform acrobatics, either in washing or on spin dry. I know you need much patience, because it seems to take forever. My clothes are usually left flapping on the line. You do have a wonderful spoken voice. This was a treat to read and listen to. All the best across from across the waves.
