I think I will call it Celebration?

I think I will call it Celebration?

A Poem by Robert Trakofler
"

This is my Merry Christmas to everyone here in writers Café! So many wonderful hearts have touched me in this place:)

"

This empty dining room

Breathes a tender recollection

Of many afternoons

And affairs, of fond reflection

In the silent commune

Of sequesters isolation

An ache in my heart croons

For embrace of consolation

My concern in this year

Could cherish no celebrations

These hollow tables cleared

Stand and wait in reservation

An unexpected tear

Falls in silent resignation

This holiday I fear

Too, shall be an aberration

As the evening draws near

I hear the ghosts of ardor

Echoes of those held dear

In past seasons joyful regards

The memories appear

To wrap warm this secluded soul

I bask in erstwhile’s cheer

To toast my dining room so cold

Then I heard of the tears

Of a granddaughter five years old

A Christmas tree this year

They could not afford she was told

My course had become clear

For as every grandparent knows

There is nothing more dear

Then to see a little heart glow

Well it remains unclear

If this old store will have to close

But treasure most sincere

Comes from the touch of loving souls

Bittersweet, but necessary. We cannot simply ignore the situation we are in. We have to accept it, learn from it, change, and never let it happen again. I loved the poem. Thank for sharing it, rough draft or not, something can be felt from this poem. I sense how this has hurt you. And how it hurts all of us. Let's hope this will not have to continue much longer. We on writerscafe hear you.

I have really had strong feelings on how the pandemic has hit NY...
even though it has been 62 years since I lived there...NY is my roots...my years up until 8 and a half years old.....I remember so much of it like it was yesterday....
there was a restaurant we used to go to called the Blue Moon...can't remember if it was in the Bronx or Manhattan....loved that place and often wonder if it is still there....It was rather dark in there, with these faint blue lights coming up from the walls...quite the atmosphere...much like the character your place obviously has....

Yes, it was wonderful. How we were wrapped with warmth of our near and dear ones....
Top marks for this one Rob ... filled with pathos but not pity ... even given the circumstances. The wistful emotions shine through ... the understanding of a grandchild's plight ... hopefully there will be a small tree to decorate. Children are the heart of Christmas and, dare I say, and so too for those of us who are still young at heart. We live through the excited eyes of those grandkids ... warming our hearts and blessing our souls.
Hopefully, when this crap has passed, your establishment will once again ring with laughter and shine with smiles and when it does I'd like to take a trip and visit ... it looks like a place where all are welcome

Well done Bunny.
One little thing ... an apostrophe for "sequesters"

Take care my friend, be safe.

It is difficult not to negatively compare the present with the past, given the restrictions this plague has placed upon us. How could the scene of the empty dining room not make one sad? Then the cries of the granddaughter cause the realization that the truly valuable things, when appreciated, can offset a lot of disappointment. Hopefully by next Christmas, that dining room will be full again.

Liked the spirit of it.
Children always bring us back to reality, i am sure a large twig or small branch from the park she would love to paint in white and hang little home made treasure from. 5 is a wonderful age before innocence starts to slip away.
I think the current situation is not all bad Bunny, we have a forced time of reflection to count our blessings now so many have been lost. A temporary time to put right the many things we should have settled but never had the time to do so. :)

oh you know grandpa had to go buy her a tree:)
i would end it after the picture of your hall full .. i think all that comes before is smooth as silk and has smart rhyme and solid rhythm .. my heart goes out to you sir ... as NY once again closes restaurant businesses up completely ..so many have already failed and will not return .. i am praying for you and yours sir .. love what you have created there ... such a welcoming place says i .. i can feel it in the pics alone and the emotional connection felt as friends are absent from it ... keep the hope sir .. the vaccine is one of the best ever made with its very high success percentage .. peace on joy at all times of year .. but especially in this time set aside to celebrate the birth of the Lord and Savior of souls ;)
