A Poem by Robert Trakofler
"

The first attempt at writing pot heart surgery I apologize for the scratchy voice still relearning how to speak:)

"

Gift

How strange it is to look at a figure
You once knew but no longer recognize
Lost in the shock of dreadful disfigure
From the discharge of a heart paddles reply

Leaving empty spaces in the places
That formed the notions of my self’s comprise
Stealing the grace in my motions pace
Obscuring my aspect in a dull surmise

Yet swaying in the silent wake
of an old warm embrace
I am still here
Like a ghost from the vault
Of a fond memory
from a touched heart
I am, still here
And I will sing again
I will strike the lines
that soothe our souls
and sway in the elegant breeze
of simple treasures

for this is the gift
I have been given

This is my first attempt to write again after I was hospitalized for almost two months with three surgeries for heart failure. I lost much of my ability to do simple tasks and much of my memory. As time passed and with the help of so many rehabilitation staff and nurses I began to relearn so many things we take for granted every day like picking up a fork from the floor or taking a shower. But most importantly the “I” of me slowly returned I don't know if this is what comprises a soul but those things so inherent to what makes me… me, came back

I am sorry this happened to you dear Robert...you have been through quite the journey, may you heal swiftly and well. Those things that make you you do slowly return and when we encounter health issues, it really does make us think and reflect deeply...positive light to you...

Every facet of a poets life becomes inspiration. And since we're not really living till we're on the edge of death you've got a life's worth of new words to share. Like 'discharge of a heart paddles reply' that is an amazing line Robert. The conversation of pleth.

What an extraordinary experience! Through the dark veil of suffering, the light of the spirit shines through expressed as hope and resilience.

Best wishes to you.

And you are alive. Things were dreadful, and you are alive. You were helpless and now less so. You could no longer write and now you do. Congratulations.

“There is nothing more exhilarating than to be shot at with no result.” ― Winston Churchill

A near miss for Churchill. In your case nearly missed - but close to the same result. Bravo

Hi, Divvy I'm getting stronger every day:)
Continue to heal and rest. Take things slowly and allow the body to recover. In time you will be out and about. Wishing you a timely recovery Robert. Stay safe and strong. CLE

It sounds like you have really been through the wringer, Bunny. I have never been through such an ordeal, but I guess it can really make one aware of things previously taken for granted. Really glad to see you are on the mend and have regained the ability to render your unique poetry.
