I Had A Dream

I had a dream ...

A dream so sweet to leave me in utter defeat,

a dream so cruel all my hopes it didst deplete,

a taste of heaven turned into a suffering's hell,

a return to me of the one whom I loved so well ...

Last night I dreamed you were here with me,

things were even better than they used to be,

no hiding the way I felt about you as before,

O' before that night you exited my life's door,

Taken captive in your eyes burning bright,

blinded by a smile that lit the darkest nights,

carried away to heaven in laughter so sweet,

for once in my life feeling ever so complete,

I held you close to me throughout the night,

arms around you with lips pressed so tight,

whispering words of how I'd missed you so,

vowing that I would never again let you go,

To sadly awaken to find 'twas only a dream,

dazed at how truly real your kisses seemed,

to then tearfully remember that tragic night,

when you chose a noose in taking final flight,

Leaving me behind to miss your face each day,

life no longer worth the living, no how, no way,

my heart broken forever to never heal or mend,

longing for death in hopes of seeing you again,

a Lovely tribute to a dear friend.... dreams are weird to say the least; sometimes they are scary, sometimes they are sweet and dreaming of this beloved person really showed how important she was in your life. I loe your word choices.m and the poem flowed so well.

Thank you so much, Betty ... I have loved two women in my life, both the finest of Human Beings and people I could ever have known, and they are both dead ... I have not forgotten any of my supporters on Writerscafe and shall visit your pages soon ... I am going through some very difficult times, have sold our home, and am attempting to resituate myself, mentally and emotionally heal, and begin an elderly but new life afresh ... you have visited a difficult subject
With age and circumstance, it is rare not to acquire difficulties and sorrows, with the thought of carrying on appearing to be hardly worthwhile.
An unfortunate aspect of life but sometimes a welcomed relief.

this is such a beautiful tribute...I found myself humming "I had a Dream" by Paul Revere and the Raiders as I was reading...
it is the worst to lose someone to suicide...one of my best friends a little over two years ago lost her husband this way...she is still reeling from it...never seems to get better...the wound is so deep.

The sadly tragic reality of my is this: I have loved only two women in my life, and they are both dead ... I am terrified to even consider loving another woman ...
