The Old Man

The Old Man

A Poem by Malark
"

We all must face our own ultimate conclusion. Imagine from http://www.graphix1.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/TheOldMan3.jpg

"
I am the Old Man,
rugged and worn,
the oaths are gone,
all the oaths I've sworn.

I am an Old Friend,
grey and part decayed,
the memory is gone,
all the memories I've made.

I am an Old Hero,
respectful and keen,
the vision is gone,
and all the beauty I've seen.

I am the Old Man,
and as I dress in my finest clothes and cotton,
time passes by,
and I am soon forgotten.

This was stunning. Poignantly written, with obvious heartfelt and genuine emotion. The metre and flow were superbly crafted, and the piece was both easy to understand and comprehend. You don't always have to break out the thesaurus and pen obscure, humongous vernacular to get a point across in an unpretentious and quite elegant fashion. Your point, and your wonderful message, gets driven home here, in this touching poem...

So saddened by this, it is true that they are forgotten so quickly, lest we forget all the fallen. As always a very poignant write.

Thank you so much for your words and thoughts.
Sad but true how we grow, we age we are known then somehow gorgotten....may we be able to have such defining moments in not only our lives but others as well so we are not forgotten.

Nice one.

Thank you Troy.
I still have a ways to go, to see something beautiful huh. Age is but a number, though a very accurate one. Interesting piece, and enjoyed.

I’m still young. I do not understand. But I hope I make most of my life
If he was friend and hero, he will never be forgotten. I am happy that he wasn't, 'The Young Man.' This sounds like a well~lived life. Angi~

I agree, someone somewhere will remember the great deeds and glorious triumphs of someone beloved.
