Purple Rose

Purple Rose

A Poem by Fran Marie

a rose.by any other name
 might smell as
sweet~ but not this rose..
she knows only
sadness ..simply not
the same as others
 you may know,
                 with

her hue shone low
no light penetrates
 darkness when
one is left alone

                caught

in the rain of another
mundane day ..
her parfume charm
washed away in a
drizzle of loneliness

              one can

only guess the unrest
felt ..the duress dealt
struggling with wet
laden petals ..beneath
the deluge of misery

                   yet

she vows to bloom once again

Love how you weave the idea of purple as being melancholy, along with a rose that can be so fleeting, to symbolize how life's little bursts of happiness are only punctuation marks along a dreary pathway, but a bloom is still worth yearning toward! (((HUGS)))

There is a sadness here woven throughout the poem but there is also hope for the future in the final line. Life is like that. We have periods of sadness mixed in with true happiness. We have to take the rough with the smooth. A beautiful pen Fran.

A beauty! An allegory of sudden sadness, as if something bad just happened, as if someone close to her has done something to create her misery.... her spirit is low; "no light penetrates darkness" another low day, her perfume fades from the day she sprayed herself in happiness; she stays close to darkness until the day she is ready to bloom once more. So fantastic, dream-like; but with hope at the end.
Best, B

Breathtaking. I love the line 'her hue shone low'. That's how I feel on my low days

Thanks EJ. so very much;
A powerful story written in your words dear Fran. I have English roses in my yard. I cut from my Grandfather bushes and now. I have a yard filled with them. A sad rose will bloom in the Spring. Maybe find better days? Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

I love your work and you are welcome dear Fran.
What excellent hope you express here! Often our colors are dampened, or they wither and fade. But where there is life, there is always a chance to bloom again. Your last line captured this perfectly.

Very grateful for the last line in this one. The preceding sounded very much like a depressive episode. When one can vow to bloom again, though, you know the sun will shine again eventually.
