Distant Echoes

Distant Echoes

A Poem by Fran Marie
"

Inspired by the Painting " Village Shadows" By Charles Dickinson

"

Shadows painting silhouettes
of bygone days, earth edged in
shadings of a tequila sunset
my thoughts hanging
in the balance
 dusted memories now focus

roses and romance usher
in a murmuring breeze
nestled by moonlight,
music and margaritas,
at the hacienda. and I,
raptured by his spanish song

the village is quiet tonight
plants in pottery standing sentry
by doorways, showcasing
 splashes of garnet geranium
and crimson curled flowers
flavoring the air with
an ambiance of sweet bouquet

down the dusty road
cathedral bells softly chiming
and in the distance
I can still savor the sweet
echoes of him playing guitar

Men and women want very similar things from each other... there's just too much fore play and cultural absurdity in between now.

Some poetic imagery in this piece, Fran, and the mood is conveyed with a good choice of words. Nicely penned!

"Dusted memories now focus".... on memories of a time when a lover played Spanish music on his guitar; the beauty of dusk when shadows dance on patios; creating a darker rust color; by day the streets are filled with hawkers, commuters, shoppers; by dusk and by eve, the streets have a slow hum to them... the air with an ambiance of sweet bouquet".... "bells softly chiming"... fantastic imagery along with scents of the neighborhood... Feel as if I am there.... loved this (been to Oaxaca many winters)
Best, B

you're very welcome Fran!
The imagery you presented through your words easily puts the reader right there in the scene. I can feel the soft breeze, smell the scent of the flowers and hear the music. Very nicely done, Fran! Thank you for sharing! Temp

Thank you so much
I appreciate your kind words
I so enjoy the images you paint in your words. They definitely catapult the reader into the world you have created in your poetry. Growing up I remember my creative writing teacher in high school reminding everyone constantly to write piece that are evocative to the senses. It is there you build a relationship with the reader. In finding that place of relevance in their heart. Excellent work Fran.
