Red and The Wizard

Red and The Wizard

A Story by Fran Marie

Evil had taken its toll on Red and her family;the money literally gone up in smoke
with grandma's corpse, proved in a sense that you really could take it with you
The irony of it all. An accentric old bat had gotten the last laugh, the note in an
empty matchbox, the killing of mom with her own axe and those damn arsenic
cookies; plus all those trips to gran's house had been for nothing.Greed had played
its ugly hand and Red had fallen into death's dark sleep, but all of that was about
 to change.

The wizard of the woods was enjoying his walk in a light sprinkling of April's
springtime rain.Birds were singing and butterflies fluttered about when suddenly
in the distance the wizard saw a small house. How odd,he thought, a house in the
middle of the woods and as he approached nearer he noticed a strange odor in
the air.He opened  the door and couldn't believe his eyes.
There lie Red in fetal position on the bed in the midst of dried blood and bones
of what seem to be that of a wolf.
The all knowing wizard gazed into his special sapphire stone he carried
with him and deep within it revealed everything about Red and her family.
The old wise man was able to read the past and see the future
and always have remedies for the present. He saw all that had happened,
the axe killing of Red's mom, the bad wolf's sad fate, gran's body in flames
all these horendous acts and the wickedness that existed in Red's life.
The wizard was saddened, he shook his head in disbelief and wondered
how such a young beautiful girl could be so evil, yes, he even saw Red's plan
to escape from her sad life by going to New York and trying to find her place
in the sun, refinement and all the fringe benefits that a big city had to offer.
He saw it all or so he thought, everything that is except her happy thoughts.
Evil hides its ugliness in the strangest ways, the evil would always be with Red
deep in the chambers of her dark black soul.
So the wizard thought the girl deserved a second chance,he would erased her
past and by his calculations and observation of the sapphire stone these events
had occured some 3 years ago.Red was remarkably beautiful and if she wanted
New York she shall now have it,but not by greed or evil doings,oh no,she shall
have it by magick.
The wizard then picked Red up into his arms and wrapped part of his purple velvet
robe around her body and carried her into the deep, deep woods where he dwelled,
with fairies, sweet scented flowers and smooth silken ponds of cool green water
indeed a wondrous magical woodland.
He sat Red down in the shade beneath a tall graceful elm tree, it was a beautiful
spring day in April and tomorrow on the 20th Red would turn 18 years old,he thought
it a fitting birhday gift to grant her life and transport her to New York.
He then beckoned nine fairies to dress Red in the finest garments and bathe her in
lavender oils, fetch gardinias for her hair and sprinkle fairy dust upon her eyes.
He placed his warm hands on Red's temples and erased all memories and then spoke
magick words to her....and when you awake you will only know that your name is
now Scarlet Woods  and you are in New York city and all your dreams shall be
granted as long your soul is not filled with greed and evil, and so it was done.

"Arsenic cookies" haha
There's a wittiness to your writing that I really like. An interesting take on the classic story and the pairing of the modern New York to the archaic magick. I'm supposing that the magic failed considering the evil inside Red, but perhaps not. I'm curious to what happens as this would make a promising story.

I like the way you filled us in on Red's history, by showing not telling. Overall, good story.

So the Wizard had hope for Red but I have a feeling Red isn't going to come back and be so nice!

This is a great story and I love the details of the wizard and the purple cloak. How fitting for a wizard to have a purple cloak. Makes me wonder what will happen next for Red wasn't exactly sweet and innocent.
