Irish Rose

Irish Rose

A Poem by Marie
"

Lyrics written from a man's point of view about a lost love he still remembers

"

As I lie here reminiscing

Looking back on all the years

Once more I hear your laughter

Feel your love and wipe my tears

We met when you were just sixteen

I loved you there and then

I had no way of knowing

We would never meet again

But I never could forget you

I have loved you all my life

Still cannot bear to think of you

Being someone else’s wife

I picture you, my Irish Rose

Though I am far away

As young and pretty, smiling

Though I’m now old and grey

You still visit me in dreams

You will ‘til for good I repose

We’ll be together forever then

My beautiful Irish Rose

Well you did say you would write something about 'The Irish Rose' Marie in all its glory - and here it is. I love that you have taken the trouble to do this. And this Piece is so true - the enchantment of my own Irish Rose, as mentioned in my Poem 'Hearts' still haunts me nearly 50 years on. This was Exceptional dear Marie - Well Done ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

So finely written, this resonates exceedingly well with me. I was so shy and insecure when young that I could never put myself forward and say the right things. Pretty little country girl, Florence, sat in front of me in 8th grade, and I could never even say "good morning" to her. There were others as well that I still think of in ways much like this poem. You know a man's heart.

Splendid meter and rhyming here, Marie. This one would make a great love song. John McCormack would have done wonders with it.

A first love: one that etches words into a heartful memory, into a person's untouched world-worried life. Tis said that a Man or Woman holds the best of his/her life onto one because the brain clams onto emotions. Why not fill one's being with the best; perhaps too, as example of how to feel, how to behave in the future? The reason for a tragic life can be due to unhappiness, lack of love and isolation in the child

Whereas your lovely, tender and sincere show of the YOU is gently needing and holding onto a beautiful memory - for love and into eternity. There's joy in your sincerity - pure joy!

Dear Marie,
A poem that feels like a beautiful, unfulfilled dream in which the Irish Rose still visits her lover. This felt like a very different love as most teenage relationships fade with time. Yet here he is, old and grey and yet remaining faithful to her memories. It becomes all the more special as she chose to be someone else's wife. I think this is what we call unconditional love and you did such a wonderful job of portraying it. I especially adored the two concluding verses that gave the poem a supernatural kind of touch. Kudos!

Loved the chosen artwork too.
