Butterfly of The Night

Butterfly of The Night

A Poem by Marie
"

An owl and a moth (butterfly of the night) enjoying a little chat at night time...

"

Gliding through the air
you visit me as night arrives.
Wings of satin gold
studded with black diamond’s
shimmering in the moonlight.

I stand on a strong bough,
lord of all I survey,
as we chat.

Luna beams her smile
as I dive to catch my breakfast,
returning with it squiggling
in my mouth.

You don’t join me as I dine
but you watch intently,
as you narrate a story
of the breeze
and how he blew away
all of Rose’s pretty petals
as a prank!

Soon fairy ‘Blossom’ alights
on your back,
and together you ride into
the magic night,
while I dine alone!

Ah that poor little owl was left alone! I love how the night seems to be a beautiful setting for this rendezvous of two feral creatures of the forest, absolutely beautiful how you weaved this imagery implying how carefully you had thought of it, the description of the moth sounds beautiful, your witty line to signify moonlight here, 'Luna beams her smile,' really takes my heart, you have covered up everything poetically and concised it into these lines telling a tale of how these friends interact, the moth's secrets, the owl's company, how it's left alone at the end...

I'd like to hear more on your thoughts on your line I gotba bit confused at 'soon fairy blossom alights,'

But all in all, I loved this poem, the title signifies it beautifully, beautiful work on these lines my friend!

Ah, I really enjoyed this. I'm a bit the night creature myself. I have an old Poe-esque poem in the style of The Raven that I wrote about a Luna moth called, Angel of Selene. I should dig it out of my dusty archives and post it. It relays actual events that took place one summer night with a luna. I like the owl and moth's comradery with the night.

This sounds like a story from Aesops Fables. I suppose a surety is not always guaranteed. Nicely done, Marie. It's always a pleasure to read your poetry. :)
