Who Am I

Who do you think I am? As you read, what do you imagine me as? Who am I?

I am a sickness for which there is no cure.
I am a toxin that you can’t escape.
I am the monster you keep locked in a cage.
But I speak the words you seem to hate.

I am the thoughts inside your head.
I am the memories you buried deep.
I am the tragedies of your past.
But I am the trial master you can’t sate.

I am the silence in your darkest moments.
I am the cracks in your soul.
I am the scars time never heals.
But I am not fake.

I am the misery that haunts you.
I am and will always be the one who knows you best.
I am the one you shove away instead of being the one you accept.

Who am I?

I am you and you are I. We are one in the same.
I am the voices and the thoughts that you hear every day.
I am your demons, those which you created.
I am the monster you lock in a cage to pretend it is not there.
I am your insanity.

Accept me and silence the war inside you.
For if you run, you fan the flames and I will only get louder.

I feel that this is something so many can relate to. The intensity of these things that "I am" give homage to what a challenge it is to just find acceptance in ourselves. I really connected to this piece. Thank you for sharing.

I consider my depression to be my "Insanity" I have struggled with Depression and anxiety my whole life. It sucks and it has been super hard to over come. I still struggle today with it and sometimes I don't know what to do. But I do know when I write out my feelings, I feel better and more motivated to share some of my things with the real world and realize that I'm not the only one who struggle with depression or heartbreak or whatever it may be.
You are a very talented author and I feel like as you continue to share, you will feel better and you will receive people out there who are struggling with the same things that you are.
Very heartfelt poem and it reminded me of a story I wrote called, "The blonde girl" If you want to read it you can, but you don't have to if you don't want to.
