ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING

ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING

A Poem by Glen Fitch

            Braccae Tuae Aperiuntur

    Ya, this is really awkward
        I confess.
    I'm glad you're friend enough
        let me know.
    Perhaps my troubled mind,
some sign of stress or chance,
            uncovered what one mustn't show.
    What I've betrayed
        comes from my inner core.
        It's vital to myself
        and to my pride.
            Though I sense your discomfort
most abhor what's dear to me
        and will not be denied.
    I am no fool.
        I keep a constant watch
        to hold in check
            what I have hardly tamed.
    Perhaps I had
to take me down a notch.
    Though I'm embarrassed,
    I am not ashamed.
        Forgive my human-self.
            I don't know why
            somehow I've left undone
                my moral fly.
