Shying Away

Shying Away

A Poem by Beatles9322
"

This is about my shyness. :(

"

"Girl? Girl? Excuse me, girl?"

Calls a boy who has known me for years,

Is this who I have become?,

When did this all happen?

When did I start shying away,

From the simplest things?,

Such as speaking up in class,

Or defending myself against the "it" girls.

You know me, I am a powerhouse,

I fight for what I believe in,

Although the fighting is inside,

And never shown to the world.

I have so many goals and hopes,

That nobody knows,

Do the kids at school know me,

As anything other than "the quiet Gabby"?

When did I become a doormat,

For the world to wipe their scum on?,

When did I become a swinging door,

That people can just pass through?

Why can't I come out of my shell,

That I built around myself,

To shield my mind,

To hide my soul?

"She's shy," says my mother,

To all we meet,

Is this the norm,

For a girl of sixteen?

Why can't I be outgoing,

And flirt with cute boys,

And gossip with the girls,

That I have never met?

Maybe what I should ask,

Is can I come out of this?

Can I be my own person?,

And not be afraid of rejection?

I sure hope so,

Because high school is almost over,

And nobody will ever know,

The real Gabrielle.

My friend, I think it is very normal to feel as you do. High school is often a confusing and convoluted place. Sometimes it is hard to establish yourself, especially if you are surrounded by immature or superficial people.

I think that you have a great depth of character. You watch what is going on, you see it for what it is, but you don't cheat your values and join the ridiculous games that those people play.

That makes you very special. Those qualities are what will make you successful as you start life after high school. Those people may not know you now, but they will know you by the deeds you do.

Surround yourself with good people, outline your dreams, then go and make those dreams happen.

Sometime we don't want to be seen. In school. I was the joker. I like to hear laughter. The quiet people just wanted to think. Don't need to be loud and bold to save the world. Need to think and speak with wise words. I like this poem. Life is a funny journey. There are people who do things and there are people who talk about it. A excellent poem.
