the leaves

the leaves

A Poem by Gard25

the leaves begin to fall
each a darker shade of red
they wander by my window
rotting until dead

looking so pretty
hanging from their tree
but their hands let go
finally free

they dance as they fall
twirling in the wind
glowing in the sun
the trees leaves now thinned

clouds grow darker
a rumbling in their chest
the earth shakes and trembles
winds screaming in unrest

the leaves now miss
safety of their restraint
the shelter of their friends
as their color begins to taint

they cannot go back
no longer having a home
they believed freedom brings joy
but now they rot alone

and as the days go by
they disappear and fade
the once vibrant leaves
should've just obeyed
