Waking Up

Waking Up

A Poem by Girl Friday (Sarah W.)

my eyes have adjusted to Eos’ rosy fingers --

the waking Queen beyond my casement fans her fronds

to form shadow wings upon my walls, and I am revived

from a curious sort of dreamless stasis

this is a morning scented with sugared vanilla

and the crisp chill of open-windowed abandon

what does it feel like to be     alive?

because I have not known until this moment --

I have collected minutes and hours like dollars and cents,

counting them until my fingers are numb     forgetting

to stop the clock (occasionally) to savor unmarked time

but today the sun is bright     the restraints of worry and regret

are burning like Greek ships before battle

the possibilities are as infinite as the arched back of the sky,

because these early hours are for lounging contemplation --

these precious pearls belong to me

Sometimes, it is difficult to feel "alive" when you wake up and how the day progresses. Certain places can bring us to the feeling of being truly alive, feeling normal and not low or crazy or not normal. I feel most alive whenever I take a walk outside. Smelling the forest, seeing the blanket of stars above in the darkened sky. Certain things we see, smell or feel help make us feel at home and not so "out of our element." Great write :)

Thank you so much!
Well I am not sure I can say what others said a lot better than me, but a nod and tip of the hat to an old sparring partner is what I can give, that and well you know me. The old gray cells went to this for background https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1CPrRSyyv0

Like a said, a nod and tip of the hat.

Favorite line... "the arched back of the sky".
You never disappoint. Well, I'm disappointed you are so scarce of late...
Wishing you well.
Your friend ever,
Scott.

Captures the border between sleep and waking. Wonderful phrase, "the restraints of worry and regret

are burning like Greek ships before battle". Overall tone of great possibilities for the day. Truly great.

This. This is absolutely everything good in the world. It's so well written and well done, I'm speechless. What I would give to have a talent with words like you do

This is superb. You use words like colours on a canvas, creating a picture of bright serenity. Tis a time for putting shadows aside, for forgetting worries, for feeling utterly and happily alive. The time when being alone means coententment with and in Self. This is a work of art, Sarah..

'.. forgetting ~ to stop the clock (occasionally) to savor unmarked time ~ but today the sun is bright ..'

See, I'm not a morning person at all. I'm sleepy and a little grumpy, haha. This however, is amazing! You already know I love your writes Sarah - as always. Lovely wording and some beautiful images.
