A Poem by Girl Friday (Sarah W.)

There are gradients of love -

deep hues without grace of names,

that taste of mango and honeyed pear.

I search with my fingertips, like wings spread

delicate upon the breath of a dying season,

for the lingering exaltation of a passionate horizon,

but I find only empty skies, when there should be clouds

softening the sinking glow of a stubborn sun.

There are gradients of love -

I have spent a lifetime trying to express,

with failing words, flavors I have yet to know.

You truly have a way with words. Your execution always lives me in awe. Excellent piece.

"...but I find only empty skies, when there should be clouds softening the sinking glow of a stubborn sun."

So lovely, GF! It reminds of line from William Butler Yeats in which he wrote, "With the earth and the sky and the water, remade, like a casket of gold."

Very well done:)

Thank you so much, Rebecca!
" lingering exaltation of a passionate horizon, " wow

Love and the colors therein..sometimes escape our grasps
Seasons die and hearts stop trying
But breath still whispers.. come ..

Thank you so much, I appreciate the compliment!
The way to write reminds me of Anne Michaels (to a certain extent). If you haven't read her already I'd suggest reading her book of poetry "The Weight of Oranges".

Scratch that, read anything by that amazing Canadian poet.

I guess there are gradient of every emotion. These lines : I search with my fingertips, like wings spread
delicate upon the breath of a dying season....that line must have at least 4 literary devices embedded within...the sign of a good poet is the ability to do this because it means that your intended meanings are deliciously ambiguous. Was a refreshing read for the sheer poetic elements.

Thank you, my friend...I'm humbled.
I like your conceived connection with lightning striking
with more than one spot rhythm, reminds me of when I was a child, still counting the thunder
to see how far the storm is really out in the distance..great piece good luck with your second addition!
