Killing Jar

Killing Jar

A Poem by Girl Friday (Sarah W.)

the only way around it

is to seal myself inside the killing jar --

cotton ball soaked in ether and mislaid words,

until my worried wings go quiet and my eyes

my ocean eyes     heavy-lidded, see for the first time

because I can find them in that place,

(where after meets before) the poems that have sank

like lockless keys to the bottom of my brain,

stitched too tightly these days to just let go

when I transform,

my pigments will be more dynamic,

and my lines will cut sharp as scalpel blades

through the tender flesh of this life until it cracks,

fractures like an eggshell     releasing the sun

This is rather hypnotic Friday, as though there's something right at the tip of your tongue but it's locked away, I know that feeling....so many great lines here, I'd have to quote them all, but whats stands out is 'stitched too tightly these days to just let go'....I feel the frustration and angst in that one line alone....as always a genius write my friend.

Thank you so much, Frieda!
this was good, I feel like you could totally continue this further and bring out more in it though. just seems like its not done and this was just the first step. I do like it though a lot, descriptive

almost too deep for words this one. I have had moments where I thought my words would be the ignition - the firestarter at the core - they would unlock the energy and allow me to go supernova...instead of being the dull edge of a sealed jar...
This one speaks volumes.

In order to grow spiritually, mentally and emotionally then we need to sometimes break out and step out of our comfort zone.

You poetry remains top notch.

Just telling the truth.
The sub-conscious mind holds many deep hidden desires, secrets and forgotten memories that sometimes manifest themselves in the most curious manor, through dreams, times of angst and when we are in tranquil or somber, soporific mood !

A pleasurable, poetic peruse that possesses a hypnotic charm !

Thank you so much, Tom!
I rather like the thought us as being pure energy; and when we die, our energy lives on. When released from the shell of our bodies, we rise as the sun.

Beautiful!

I like your interpretation...thank you.
Ether and mislaid words...I can't put a finger on why, but I just relate to that image. I love the lockless keys bit as well. I'm not sure if I'm in the ballpark interpretation-wise, but this is how I feel during writer's block. I feel the need to "punish" something, even if it's the mere words. And I always feel like I'll emerge from it with something edgy, which is usually just what happens. Imaginative and thought-provoking as always my friend.

You aren't far off, my friend...but you never are :)
This had me thinking of Ovid's metamorphoses - fitting, considering the imagery - the constant, endless transformations from one form to the next, from existence to the next, from one state to the next. Death, as a transformation to a greater life, or a renewed life.
The dream of something new.
I wonder what we wish for in the end.
Something new and unimagined in the previous existence?
Or a beginning and an end unchanged, the same life, but with no memory?

...you've got me thinking...
