Where Are We Headed?

Where Are We Headed?

A Poem by GodzillaGirl101
"

My fears for the planet's future and for the lives of all things.

"
Where Are We Headed?

Mother thinks it's lovely.
Dad says it's great.
 My siblings all agree this is the best worldy fate.
So why does my heart clench, and my stomach ache in fear?
The hour of nature's judgement is quickly drawing near.
Soon we'll lose our dazzling cities and our fancy gadgets;
Drop our saws and mean machines and throw away our hatchets;
For Gaia's fury burns with a rage too great to say;
We've ruined Gaia, violated her too many ways.
Foul fumes are acrid, raking down my lungs;
Rotten-eggy sulfur leaves its odor on our tongues.
Sludge and toxic waste are piled up in the streets,
No longer when you're outside do you hear birdy tweets.
Trees are black and rotting, plants are obselete;
We've lost the things we once cherished, nature made us complete.
Desecration, desolation, wicked humankind,
When you stepped outside your door, what did you once find?
Blooms and flow'rs aplenty, colors dancing 'round;
Now all you will see are empty holes in the ground.
Structures gleaming tall and high,
all that I can do is sigh...
Where did my green fields run off to?
Sick and dying now, toxic flu.
Animals rot on the roads,
You selfish pigs, disgusting toads.
How can you stand back and watch?
Never mind your getting caught.
No one cares about the Earth,
the place that loved us, land of our birth.
Nature moans and sobs each night,
Evilness done in her sight.
Trash and litter, spread all 'round,
She can't make a happy sound.
She tries to make us glad with gifts,
Nice things to give our spirits lifts.
We ignore and disregard
That struggling blossom in our yard...
When, when, oh when will it end?
Gaia cries for a godsend.
It's too late to save the Earth,
Our dear homeland, land of our birth.
Desecrated, violated, beauty melted down...
Gorgeous life, lovely things, burned down to the ground...
Life was once a precious thing,
Thrown away to man's great gain.
If all you're after's power and money,
Never will you taste life's honey.

A Poem concerning the issues of the folly of mankind and selfish disregard to the environment by: Alyssa Mitchell (GojiGeek101), age 14, 2016.
