(Dis)connected

(Dis)connected

A Poem by Grace Eisenhauer
"

We are a world caught up in the computer world...and I've just been pondering about that a lot.

"
Keys of the computer in constant rhythm
As if we're constantly trying to find the key.
Constantly catching up with profiles on a screen
And the ignoring of our physical neighbor is constant.
Hoping to connect to everything,
Though without empathy, there is no hope.
Time is of essence,
But by accepting every opportunity, there is no time.
Distance will not separate us from our friends,
But why is it that when we talk in person, we seem so distant?
To be human, is to have emotion.
We're afraid.
Emotion is vulnerability.
A metal shield containing an apple symbol.
Is it the protection we need?
Or is the apple still the temptation of today?
The mouse is now the serpent.
Prey becomes the predator.
And I pray.
I pray that one day we can reconnect
Not through transmission.
...but by being human.
