A Hundred Miles Away

Written 1/20/15 Inspired by someone very close to me.

I'm hundreds of miles away
But my heart
Knows no distance
~
Like a harp being played
Empathy
Plucks at my heart strings
~
And ever so quietly
I choke back the tears
Because I know you're hurting
~
I wish that even for a second
I could take the pain away
And you'd finally get some rest
~
Maybe you'll find refuge
In the only real thing I can offer
The heart that beats in my chest
~
I'll cast it out on a line
Catch it and hide there
As long as you'd like

I've always been able to feel empathy when it comes to others, but I felt it a lot more because this poem is about my best friend. We have a very strong connection between us.
