Cold Eyes

Cold Eyes

A Poem by Gregory Lara

No longer the person I once knew

Lost but still
Crying for change but always smiling in the place you hate

Pleasure outweighs the guilt

Dying little by little when looking in those eyes
Searching for a hint of the one I once was

Critique: (Pleasure out weighs the guilt) outweighs

Review: With growth comes change, sadly that growth sometimes is in a different direction, so growing up can also mean growing apart. Your poem does a good job of highlighting the reality of this situation. Bravo! Clap! Clap! Clap!

Change can definitely make someone lost, and without a guide to help you can be overwhelming. The search for a hint may best be found not in your own eyes but those of another, I think. Excellent piece.

I think change can definitely be catastrophic. Sometimes we don't even realise it's happening and all of a sudden we don't know who we are anymore or how to get back to our values and dreams. This really does show the inner struggle - coming to terms with what is rather than what should be.

Everyone changes, for better or for worse that is a huge part in life. Changing and growing. It all comes with the experiences of being alive. But it sometimes can take a dark turn, as you have pointed out. Great write :)

I love this poem. It has that basic idea and you presented it in a way that caught my attention. Absolutely loved it.

No, no...there is no point in searching for what no longer exists. This faces your eyes backward from the purpose of your life's journey. Be. Be who you are in this moment, letting go of any past or future thoughts of Self.
And keep smiling, wherever you are. A forced smile in the face of any circumstances release endorphins just like a happy smile.
I enjoyed and appreciated your poem, thank you.

Powerful work here. The emotions of it all cast a cloud over me...
but the words came to life.

a sense of looking in a mirror... life happens to us all and the changes remain behind.

Hmmm living with regret but closing a blind eye to it because the courage to change can't be found - well expressed with this one :)

Amazing how sometimes short pieces get the message so clear.
Bowie came to mind when I read this,"time may change you,but you can't change time" I might add to that keep true to thyself....
Great piece.
