Lockdown Blues

Lockdown Blues

A Poem by Gwendolyn Mackay
"

An ode to the end of winter lockdown and the emergence of Spring and the courage is arises

"

As Lockdown releases and Spring emerges

The vulnerable and tender stems and leaves of our Being push through the comfort of our earth bed and the hard soil to greet our friend the sun

Worn out, grieved and wistful

We unfurl our sensitive armour

We expose our intimate sadness and fears

Peaking through the curtains of our souls

We bravely make fresh and Rekindle our resilience

Amongst the loss and the grief

Renewal and hope are both dappled

On our heavy hearts and weakened shoulders

Sit our ancient souls remembering what we need to do.

To Emerge, to Fight, to Love, to Protect, to Aspire and to Be...

Neither Weakness or Strength is an option

The two share the same table and eat from the same plate

The relationship entwined..

Both feeding from each other..

Vulnerability and determination become the ONE

And the fight for life pushes up and pushes on!

Despite the title, this one is more about hope than depression. With elegant imagery, the speaker admits we are "worn out, grieved and wistful," but near the end states that vulnerability and determination are ONE. The last line verifies that determination. No pandemic can prevail against such a spirit.

I feel inspired to write poetry when emotional and momentous things are happening. I write quickly with more reflection after the poem is written. I like how poetry can sometimes explain the paradoxic.. more..
