Her Island

Her Island

A Poem by Travis Gibson (poetic heroics)
"

I wrote this from a writing exercise last week... its called "Blackout Poetry." This was my attempt.

"
her cold island
on the porch, a home
behind four walls - thin

like springtime simple
promises of moonlight, sold
cautious, guarded

she can't accept changes
her mind... never
uses any gas

Author's Note

Travis Gibson (poetic heroics)
Blackout poetry involves taking a page from a book, and composing a piece/thought solely based on the available words; nothing more beyond meter, and/or punctuation can be added. Credit to the book: Pieces of Happiness by Anne Ostby (this was composed from page 24).

you chose some very strong words and phrases and created a scene of a lonely woman ... who isolates herself in a home that seems deserted .. cold ... all the living sucked out of it .... your closing line hit me as humorous ... she never uses any gas ... i don't know why it struck me that way .. it just did ... taken with the whole verse .. it again is.. strong imaging and layered .. how easily i relate to not liking change .. we get to an age where that happens ;} nice job with your blackout poem!! fine way to find inspiration when a dry spell hits ....

Wow, it's really very good specially with the limited words of a page. Nice work 👍

No problem and you're welcome :)
reminds me of "the widow's lament in springtime" by William Carlos Williams...
how she is trapped in the prison of herself now that he is gone...
accepting he is gone is a change...and searching for new love is a change..she will have none of either.
