A Lesson Written In Their Wings

A Lesson Written In Their Wings

A Poem by Travis Gibson (poetic heroics)
"

My children have been and still are the most magical beings I've ever known, and I'm grateful to have learned so much from them.

"
while the world was busy
getting lost in pristine white
their little hearts waited, patiently
for a break in all the commotion

sometimes, tiny prayers are answered-
the storm surrenders all authority,
they take to boots, coats, gloves...
like it's all consecrated armor

they were the first, of many
rambunctious invaders longing to play;
and in the chalky aftermath
of a few frantic snowball fights,
laid the messiest snow angels
any winter has ever seen

and there, within those frosty wings-
the most soul redeeming thing to learn...
that even Heaven,
isn't perfect

This takes me back to when my two sons were children, and I used to build snowmen with them, and go tobogganing with them. Now it is my five-year-old grandson who wants me to help him build a snowman, and insists on a snowball fight. Precious times, etched in the memory. A poem written straight from the heart, Travis!

This is remarkable poetry Travis...children are a blessing and they learn quicker and think more than we realise sometimes...this reminded me of building snowmen with my nieces...beautiful memories :)

You proudly pen what you value the most in your life and what lessons they bring. You pen with precision, honesty and appreciation. You are full of life as they fill you with hope.

They indeed do... I must thank them every day for the man that I have become.

Thank you, your thoughts are very much appreciated!
so beautiful my friend, children are pure, in their hearts, in their minds, in everything that's connected to them, they are closer to heavens and the divine than all the other grown up people who allowed the pollution of mess and hectic world to affect them greatly, so happy that You are able to feel your children and bond them in that level, may they bless You always, and may their days be filled with joy and joy and more of joy....

Thank you for the beautiful sentiment it's truly appreciated.
To me snow is an inconvenient impediment to my life. When I was a kid it was a longed for experience especially if it fell on a Monday. Thanks for reminding me.

Thank you, friend... Your visit always leaves me feeling accomplished.
yes, even Heaven isn't perfect...we are better for all of our faults..we learn, and I think our children may teach us more than any adult teacher in school or out.
Children play with reckless abandon...And...they play with all their friends no matter what color or nationality they are...Adults teach the prejudice...it is learned not inherent ...
This poem is a sharp reminder of that.

You speak with much pride in your offspring and you are so right, we learn from them. It's their imperfections which give them their uniqueness. Their journey one of continual learning. I have my three grandchildren, all in their early twenties living with me. They keep me up to date from a younger perspective. They are a true blessing. Wonderful poem Travis. All the best.
