Napkin Stain

Napkin Stain

A Poem by Holly Mason

Within our souls lies ways untold,
what does each of us hold?
Problems of the, I told you so's.

I told you not write on that paper.
I told you no ink would save her.
Blood stained napkin says it all.

Give it back ,don't post a wall.
All dirty and stained ,on you I call.
This bloody napkin says it quite clearly.

I told you so, she is not nearly,
the girl I thought you would hold dearly.
This napkin is kissed in red not stained,

So smile ,I told you so's wrong again.

This is terrific. I'm not sure I understand it, but I don't need to. I can just read it and be satisfied. This is well-integrated. A good composition. You are an artist. --FF

I read it three times to gather a message... It has a very wide scope for meaning so I had difficulty. I gathered the impression that they thought the girl was to reach her end because she was sick, and the boy who loves her is reminded of those things told to him before about how they would not end up being together... then they find out in the end that it was but a red lipstick stain so the bad reminders faded away. Did I get the message?
