Skipping

Skipping

A Poem by Holly Mason

Now, one knee up
and the other down
hop on one foot
quick to the other
keep it going
pig tails bouncing
look at your arms
elbows are bent
trying to whistle
as down we went
skipping along
merrily were the days
laughing all the time
one knee up
and the other down
skipping back
holding hands
sidewalk chalk
water balloons
one knee up
and the other down
skipping, skipping
childhood found

not according to the youtube videos *)*)hahahah
thank you fine sir
A most whimsical piece, vividly conveying the carefree nature of childhood. I especially how you use structure to convey meaning....the way this piece is written in truncated phrases parallels the thoughts and actions of children.

Nice write.

You've so well captured that childhood world--a place where having fun is the prime directive.

There's something about this poem that reminds me of Dylan Thomas--the rhythm and the innocence.

What a fun piece, bringing me back to the games of childhood. Your words portray the motion and the joyful abandon perfectly!

now, i'm back in the Bronx, playing hopscotch on the hot cement...

and oh those burning feet...but my brain plays this often...because i bounce back to my childhood in my mind...some things won't let go of us, ever.
