Shattering Angel

Shattering Angel

A Story by Holly Mason

Sunday dress, tied with yellow bows.
Pleated hair, held back with fresh flowers.
Innocence smiling, shy cheeks, warming eyes.
Running to the car an angel flies.
She was smiling as she turned.
To look upon her father.
Mother is in the passenger seat.
Her hands were streaming happily in air.

He had a bad day.
At work and home.
So much on his mind.
But the drinks, help.

After church on Sundays,
they always go out to lunch.
She ran with bounce into the diner.
She made everyone smile.
Shy cheeks work wonders.
Spinning to show her Sunday best.
Some flowers, were of course out of place.
What a beautiful day.

Sundays were always the worst.
Kids at the house, won't listen.
The miserable wife around.
He is so glad the bar opens early.

Dad is paying the bill.
Mom is smiling, heading to the car.
Little Angel is merrily saying her bye's.
Just one last spin, to garner the attention.
Dad grabs her hand , but she pulls away.
So playfully she runs out into the parking lot.
She was smiling as she turned.
The last of an Angel's smile.

He had too many.
Time to go home.
"Get in there keys."
WHAT DID I DO...to an Angel.

Great poem, enjoyed the descriptive language. The contrast between the daughter and the father was key to the story, and was exercised very well.

thank you much truly
and nice meeting you
We never really know what is happening behind the walls of other families... we think just cause they are dressed nice and smiling that everything is kosher... Excellent poem.

Holls, your imagery is really vivid, its really great the little story you have created here. Your title dragged me in, I just had to read it. I loved it, and of course you never disappointed. You have out done yourself, this was magnificent.

Awesome blossom.
